As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we drive educational efforts and innovative projects to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy technologies across our community.

Who We Are
Skagit Valley Clean Energy Alliance is a 501 (C) 3 non--profit in La Conner, WA and is an affiliate of Skagit Valley Clean Energy Cooperative. This organization is composed of citizen volunteers who work to promote local and regional renewable energy and to foster sustainable, self-reliant and resilient local communities.
We began as a member owned, not-for-profit cooperative on May 6, 2022 in La Conner, WA with the intention to promote and produce local and regional renewable energy and to foster sustainable and self-reliant communities.

Solarize Skagit 2023 & 2024: Community-driven solar installations across the Skagit Valley.
EPA Electric School Bus Grant: In collaboration with Highland Electric Fleets for the La Conner School District, advancing the electrification of school buses.
Current Projects:
Grant Procurement: Secured funding to support clean energy initiatives, including feasibility studies and solar installations.
Department of Commerce Grants (2023):
Feasibility Studies for Resilient Communities (Solar with Backup Battery Storage)

EPIC Grants for Solar & Backup Battery Installation:
La Conner Middle School (installed solar and backup battery systems).
Future Projects:
Electrification of School Fleets: Promoting the transition to electric school buses across Skagit Valley schools.
Skagit Valley College: Electrification of the college’s van fleet.
Solar for Farms: Expanding solar energy solutions for farm residences and agricultural structures.
Grant-Funded Initiatives: Leveraging an organizational grant from the Department of Commerce and support from the Norcliffe Foundation to drive clean energy projects. Additionally, we are pursuing funding opportunities through the Skagit Community Foundation, The Tulalip Tribe, and Walmart to expand our reach and impact.
Empowering Through Education: Advancing Clean Energy Knowledge
SVCEA educates the general public and other stakeholders, such as local government officials, about current technologies and energy management practices. For instance, we participate in sustainability fairs, and our technical advisor writes a column about energy issues. We are also partnering with the Museum of Northwest Art, in La Conner, for a detailed exhibit about the energy transition.

Collaboration in Action: Driving Energy Innovation
SVCEA works with individuals, businesses, and local organizations to envision, fund, and implement clean energy projects that drive innovation in Skagit County.
Partnering with Homeowners: Through Solarize Skagit, we’ve helped 22+ local homeowners and small businesses install turnkey solar systems, managing everything from engineering to financing for a seamless experience.
Supporting Local Governments: We’ve guided the Town of La Conner and La Conner School District in securing grants for solar and battery storage projects, enhancing resilience and advancing electric school bus adoption.
Ongoing Outreach: By attending local government meetings and sharing expertise, we provide stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to implement energy transition projects that inspire and lead by example.
SVCEA Seeks Funding for Community Energy Projects, Including EV Charging and Solar
SVCEA is pursuing funding and technical assistance for early-stage engineering and economic work on projects that SVCEA itself, or allies still to be identified, will manage. These ideas include, but are not limited to, fast electric vehicle charging in small communities in Skagit County, facilitation of the use of energy efficiency technologies and utility funding for efficiency projects; and possibly even large-scale community projects like solar generation and district heating.

Rights of Nature
Land Acknowledgment and Commitment to Nature
SVCEA acknowledges that the land we work on in Skagit County is the traditional territory of the Swinomish, Upper Skagit, Sauk-Suiattle, Stillaguamish, Samish, and Lummi Nations. We honor their deep connection to this land, its waters, and all that it sustains.
SVCEA believes that nature and all living beings possess inherent rights, including the right to exist, flourish, and regenerate. We are committed to developing sustainable energy systems that minimize harm to the environment and work to reverse the damage caused by global warming. Though nature doesn’t speak in words, she communicates through changes in climate and weather patterns. We are listening and striving to protect and restore the land we share.
